Terri Horricks
Fine Art studies at Queen’s University, Graphics Technology through Loyalist College, Typography and Illustration courses through George Brown, make up some of Terri’s varied and ongoing education. Professionally, she works as a freelance artist and graphic designer. Freelance projects have ranged from architectural perspective drawings in ink to ten years of set painting for live theatre productions. Art has been part of Terri’s life since childhood. As a fine artist, she began painting in oils at eleven, transitioning to watercolours then acrylics, which she uses mostly today. Graphite, ink and a camera are always hiking and travel companions when exploring. Composition and movement are strong elements in Terri’s work. Although many of her recent paintings are Canadian landscapes created in a realistic style, using a subdued but natural palette, the occasional abstract painting allows her to express more intuitively with a focus on vibrant colour, texture and balance.

“In my art practice I am drawn to the details, textures and patterns in the world around me. Although nature is a prominent subject in my work, I like to incorporate subjects that hold meaning as a way of creating story and purpose behind the process. Subjects and materials morph as I embrace my own growth and life experiences.”
