Artist Statement:
PEC
This recent series of photo based pieces are based on three scenes from Prince Edward County. Having completed a series based on gravel pits, using toys and playing with scale, I found a set of dairy cows and farmer toys and took the same approach with these scenes.
The toys are painted in oil on the surface of the giclee print. The originals were scanned and printed on the same paper. (limited edition of 25 available). The small oil paintings of the toy cows emphasize the abstract nature of their black and white markings.
InQuarries
In this show, I have included some of the original series called InQuarries. This series is about land use, specifically the hidden world of gravel pits. In the gravel pit itself, men move gravel around with trucks and loaders like children playing in a big sandbox. The toys create both delight and social commentary.
