Mary Papageorgiou- 2026 Summer Guest Artist

Mary Papageorgiou is a mixed media artist living in the Kawarthas. Born in Toronto, the city’s vibrant neighbourhoods had a lasting impact on her art style. She enjoys combining urban elements, nature and animals to create an otherworldly utopia. For Mary, art is both a means of escape and survival, especially with my mobility issues, the journey has challenges.

“I work intuitively seeking symbolism, cultural significances and interconnections. My process is open, intuitive as I explore texture, layered paint and paper. A variety of mediums including metallics like foil and ink represent the metaphysical aspects of earth. There is a reoccurring theme of autonomy, freedom and self identity.

By creating fantastical animals and place, I’ve not only gained strength and purpose but a connection with others that have found joy through my art.”
