Awakening
Paired Artist - Terri Horricks with her work Ascension
I really liked this image from the moment I first saw it. There is so much mystery and drama implied - the narrow confined staircase, the darkness and unknown at the top, followed by a small touch of light at the end of the stairwell. We follow our eyes up the stairs wondering what we will discover.
I was initially hesitant to try and create something new, that would reflect what I saw and felt from that powerful image. My first attempts were in the city as I tried to find a modern interpretation of her ancient and worn staircase. But then one day driving around here in the county, I found a tree in a grove of bluebells that seemed a little dark and mysterious in the light rain. I went back to the scene the next day and spent a couple of hours capturing images that I hoped might work.
