Dianne Twombly- Above the Blue
The first things that struck me about Kathleen Dawson’s Beneath the Willows was the soft colour palette and the serene, inviting mood of the piece--both of which I attempted to replicate in Above the Blue while, of course, including some prominent elements of Base 31. While photographing elements for Above the Blue I came across some white blossom trees exploding in bloom with shapes similar to the flowers Kathleen included in her piece and used them to balance my suspended building. The blue boat is central to both pieces for me because it draws me into the pieces and allows me to imagine myself floating contently…either beneath the willows or above the blue.
